SPAIN AND PORTUGAL REPRESENT 1% OF THE GLOBAL EQUINIX BUSINESS, BUT WE EXPECT TO DOUBLE THIS FIGURE IN A SHORT TIME
In the June edition of Data Center Market magazine, Eric Schwartz, president of Equinix EMEA, presented the company’s vision about the current situation of the data center sector and the arrival of Equinix in Spain and Portugal. “Equinix is a global company with operations in North America, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Australia, Asia… Our clients have businesses in many parts of the world and are continually looking for strategic expansion opportunities. We asked them where they wanted to expand and they saw opportunities in Iberia, an enclave where we had no presence”, said Eric Schwartz.
For the president of Equinix EMEA, Spain is an important hub for global connectivity because “it not only provides Internet service to the domestic market, but also serves as a connection point between Europe and Africa (through our data centers in Seville and Lisbon) and Latin America. It is a central point of global connectivity. In addition, submarine cables (such as BRUSA or MAREA) allow us to connect with the American continent, both with Brazil and with Miami.”
